The Bateman Foundation
View all Attractions & ActivitiesThe Bateman Foundation inspires a lasting relationship with nature through the lens of art and is currently one of the only non-profits in Canada primarily using artwork to promote a connection to nature and the environment. One of the Bateman Foundation’s core initiatives is the Gallery of Nature, an interactive art gallery that overlooks Victoria’s dynamic inner harbour, located in the historic Steamship Terminal building.
The gallery showcases the magic and beauty of nature and hosts the largest collection of original and rare works by world-renowned Canadian artist and naturalist, Robert Bateman, along with a rotation of nature-inspired exhibits and a full schedule of educational and public programs. The Gallery of Nature inspires people of all ages to reconnect with nature through exciting exhibitions, kids’ activities and guided tours, along with interactive installations, including the Birdsong Gallery and multi-media video. Visitors can enjoy the vivid colours, textures and stories of the art works in a peaceful gallery setting overlooking the harbour, with a gift shop on the ground floor offering hand-picked crafts by local artisans and unique, nature-inspired souvenirs.
